The installation „Contemporary David” („Współczesny Dawid”) consists on the sculpture on a pedestal and a hidden mechanism that moves the bushes.
The sculptural installation, perversely fitting into the prevailing fashion for monuments, raises the question about the limits of the display of sexuality in public spaces.
The work is a response to social inconsistency which, on the one hand, allows for sexual aggressiveness in the media and, on the other hand, is revealed in prudery in art space. The Contemporary David provokes us to reflect on the real artistic freedom and openness of audience.
The sculpture by its form refers to the classical representations of gods. The male body made of faux bronze on a pedestal has perfect proportions and is set in contrapposto.
In contrast to classical sculptures, the contemporary David cannot risk nudity. Despite the clothes, howeverm it is clearly visible that he is excited, and the state is caused by movements in the bushes.
