“Alien” (Alienation)
H. 170 cm
The installation „Alien (Alienation)” refers to the figure of the Terracotta Army of Chinese Warriors. Every statue has individual features, each face is different and presents different emotions.
A non-gallery space was adapted for the needs of the artistic installation in the city center. It is her „alienation” in art that corresponds to the alienation of „Alien”, a lonely figure in the centre of the room – a construction woven of thousands of glowing, colorful Chinese lamps.
The white flag in front of him is not synonymous with surrender, on the contrary – its meaning is transparent, devoid of any connotation, and not sanctioned by any particular message. White means rebellion against existing reality and leaving a specific community and comfort zone.
A sign with the crossed telephone next to the „warrior” intensifies this alienation. It is a sign that shows the impossibility of communication with others, thus leaving the figure alone.
The only point of contact with the outside world can be gaps through darkened windows through which the element from outside can break into. „Alien” is a constant confrontation with what is beyond, but also a constant need for autonomy.
The Terracotta Army, the colletion of unique warriors, creates a very specific and unique group.
Similarly, the character „Alien” is one of many people breaking out of the group, not agreeing to schematic thinking and a standard approach to the current reality, even at the expense of alienation.
The only question is, to what extent this uniqueness distinguishes, and from what moment it will become a norm that someone will not agree again.
